While left-wing Hollywood’s running around declaring us racist, it’s instructive to remember it was only 11 years ago that this same Hollywood nominated a blackface performance for an Oscar.
Robert Downey Jr.’s iconic performance in Tropic Thunder (2008) not only earned him a Best Supporting Actor nod at the 2009 Academy Awards, his blackface performance was also nominated for a Golden Globe, a BAFTA (whatever that is), a Screen Actors Guild Award; as well as awards from something called the Alliance of Women Film Journalists (they sound like a load of laughs), the Awards Circuit Community Awards (do they know the word “Awards” appears twice in their name?), and at least a dozen more.
As an author I also saw a meme LAST WEEK that asserts that ALL WHITE PEOPLE ONLY SEE BLACK PEOPLE EMPLOYED AS 100% DUE TO AFFIRMATIVE ACTION!
I find the assertion very infuriating and below is my response.
I saw a post today that says that all every white person ever sees when they see an employed black-skinned person…100% of the time…is that the black-skinned person only has their job because of Affirmative Action. I think that this statement and a belief in such thinking have to be at the top of the list of “most racist statements I have ever heard in my life.”
I have never looked at Thurgood Marshall or Clarence Thomas or Condoleezza Rice or The Obama’s or Ken Griffey (JR or SR) or Dave Chappelle or Will Smith and family…or Ike and Tina Turner…or etc… as being where they are because of Affirmative Action.
From 2004 to 2007 I was the financial controller for the largest exporter in the Bahamas. On June 23, 2005, I watched the Detroit Pistons lose Game 7 to the San Antonio Spurs at a bar on Grand Bahama Island with a hundred people there and I was the only white skinned person there…and never had any thought of anyone working at the bar or being there as being anything other than human beings.
Yesterday I was at the Office Depot up the road from my house. Ernest is the black skinned manager. I have never thought of Ernest as having his job due to Affirmative Action.
