“Grammamma is the same way. If she were to start to see what I see…which is that there is silliness in following some book put together by people centuries ago who had no concept of billions of galaxies then her Wall of Disbelief would start to crumble. Grammamma would have to accept that what she has believed her whole life has been a lie…and that would mean that her whole life was a waste of time following what she so fervently believes in. Well…mentally….that would crush her. She would go insane! So…rather than go insane and accept the reality of the situation she would react by believing something even more bat shit crazy than what she already believes because the only way to keep her sanity is to rationalize the Wall of Disbelief. She has to build the Wall of Disbelief even higher because to admit that for 20 or 30 or 40 or 50 years or more that what she believed in was wrong would mentally and emotionally crush her.”
“As you get older keep your eyes open and look at what happens around you. People believe in politicians or celebrities or religious people or…or even their spouses. Then when the people they believe in are exposed as criminals or cheats or frauds the people still believe in them. They believe that what their idols did isn’t wasn’t actually happened because if that is what actually happened then that means they wasted years or decades of their life and to accept that they wasted years or decades of their life crumbles the Wall of Disbelief and then they are left with a choice: Either face facts…or build the Wall of Disbelief even higher by believing more lies.”
Kidekezo Koo is the Mayor of Detroit. His mother was black. His father was white. His skin color is white but his birth certificate says he is black because the birth race comes from the mother; the father could be anyone.
How Kidekezo became Mayor is one of many intertwined stories but as Mayor of Detroit he is trouble for corruption (go figure!) What do politicians do when threatened? The deflect criticism elsewhere. Mayor Koo is championing Reparation Legislation.
The primary plot is a road trip from Orlando to Detroit with stops in Five Points in Atlanta and at the “If Not Now When” convention in Cincinnati along the way. The climax is a rekindling of a Blind Pig in Detroit!
