Dr. John Poje Memorial Scholarship
John Anthony “Doc” Poje was a WWII Veteran who served in the Pacific Theater. After Military Service he was a conferred a PHD in Chemistry from the University of Kansas. From there he taught Chemistry at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, MI, from 1950 to 1986. There are many of Doc’s students who credit him with being a positive influence on their lives. After Doc’s passing a scholarship was established at Aquinas College in his name.
Dr. John Poje Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a full-time Aquinas College student in his or her junior or senior year with a declared major in chemistry and a minimum GPA of 3.0. Recipients are selected by the Chair of the Chemistry Department in consultation with the Director of Financial Aid. Donations to the Scholarship are always welcomed. Returned to the University of Kansas post Military Service Received Ph. D. in chemistry in 1950 from the University of Kansas Thesis “Some Physico-Chemical properties of Aqueous Solutions of the Three Common Sodium Xlene Sulfates” Charter member of the Alpha Ro chapter of the Phi Lambda Upsilon honorary chemical society
Married Helen Muser (1945 Webster College Chemistry Graduate) Hired at Aquinas College in 1950 Taught chemistry, math and physics.
